Best Audio Format

Hi all,

I know this is the Video forum, but I'm hoping somebody can give me a hand with this.

I rencently tried to create my first DVD-R from a Vegas Project. I rendered the audio to WAV (Microsoft version) and the video to MPEG-2. When I played the burned DVD in my dvd players (2 panasonic, 1 toshiba, 1 mustek ??), no problem with audio or video. I took the DVD to a friends, and the audio fades in and out until it just fades out all together. Its as though the audio track is skipping.

My guess is that this is a problem with my chosen audio format. Has anybody else had this problem, and if so, which audio format would you recomend rendering to?

Thanks in advance.

It may be that his player can't buffer the PCM well enough. I've never seen this, but see comments about it on the boards occasionally.
If you are doing anything but robust music, AC3 is the best format to use. Music is the only real benificiary of PCM format files. Some sound designers might argue that, but by the time the FX makes it through the various processes of consumer audio gear, there isn't enough of a difference for the short files to make it really all that worthwhile to deal with, IMO.

I think I just answered this question in the Audio section. If you made this DVD using DVDA and didn't purposely choose PCM, it probably automatically converted your wave files to AC3. My guess is that your friends DVD player doesn't like DVD Rs. Some don't play them, some DVD players won't play PCM either. But all DVD players play AC3. See your audio post.
