Best Capture Solution for Vegas Video

posthumust wrote on 1/17/2001, 3:55 PM
What is the best capture and print-to-tape hardware
solution? I want to be using DV(NTSC) via Firewire so that
I can take advantage of the Canon Optura's that my students
are using. I am looking for the best quality I can get out
the camera, hardware and software (which currently sits on
Intergraph ZX10's (single processor with 256 MB of RAM).

Also, will the Matrox RT2000 work for what I want to do?
Will it allow me to take advantage of the realtime
functionality of Vegas Video via DV(NTSC)?

Please help me! %)

take a look at the pyro 1394 card ( OHCI) street price 60-
100 ... use vegas capture ( also to print to tape) ... if
you want batch capture then use the MS6pro capture software
that comes with the pyro.
with the pyro you can now use firewire drives, scanners
etc.
i don't know the spec's of a intergraph ZX10 ??

take the money you saved ( amount you would have spent on
matrox) and buy more HD's

PS i am assuming the optura has firewire

You will need to running windows 98SE, ME or Win2k
to do this NT do not support OHCI cards. You might need to
upgrade the ZX10 to Win2k if it's running NT.
The Studio DV from Pinnacle works and
I'm looking into the Pyro and Lava cards as well.
I can help you out with a solution.

Is the StudioDV card supported by NT 4.0?

I don't think that batch capture will be an option with the
Optura. Would that make a difference in the support of the
card?

Thanks

There are no Win Nt drivers for the Studio DV.
The only OS support is for Win 98,98SE,ME and Win2k.
You can use Vegas to edit you video with service pack
three or four (can't remember which one) but you will
not be able to capture your clips with Win NT. I doesn't
have the support for 1394 cards. So if you wanted to
use Vegas and those ZX10's, you would have to upgrade the
operating systems to one of the newer versions of windows
then use the Studio DV to capture the with Vegas.

Hope this helps
