Best codec for HDcam?

Hello,

I'm capturing straight from the back of a Sony HDW790 HDcam via the HDSDI output. I'm limited to either 8 bit YUV AVI or the HD422 XMF due to the massive file size if I go 10 bit.

My question is which of these two would be the recommended codec to get the best results?

Also I'm going to DVD architect to produce an SD DVD from the cut footage. Reading some of the past posts it sounds like there's a down res-ing issues, although I think that might be for HDV footage. There's also mention of adding the Sony sharpening filter set to 0.00. If anyone has the latest on this I would be most grateful.

Cheers

Phil

8 bit YUV = less compression = better quality = lots of fast disk space.

If you're shooting interlaced you should not have any problems downscaling from my experiences. Progressive is another matter. Test, test and test. I'd suggest winding the camera's Detail setting down.
