Best editing work flow recommendations

I am new at VV3 and I am having some difficulties with the work flow. After I captured the video via the automatic scene capture, I bring each video clip on the trimmer and mark my INs and OUTs, however, when I place the next clip the Mark IN and OUT stay marked from the previous video clip so I have to manually click the button to go back to the beginning or double click the video clip so that it marks the entire clip. Then if I need a still shot from that clip I have to place the clip in the timeline in order to make a still shot and I have to click the preview screen to display at project size. It seems I am doing to many steps. Any advise?

I prefer to load ALL my source files for the project to the main timeline all at once as a first step bypassing the trimmer completely. I find the trimmer more of a disruption, than a help, but that's just how I do it, more a habit now than anything else. I find I can edit faster that way. If I'm not sure where a scene will end up or even if I want it, I just make a break pushing the event to a new track until I decide where it will go or be discarded.

The trimmer works well for me, but read the manual about three point editing etc. The trimmer is used a little different than you might think. You do not mark everything and then assemble like a linear editor. You place a clip in the trimmer and then mark a section, then throw it on the timelime. If you need to go to the start in the trimmer use the icon button. To mark the whole clip, double click in the center of the clip. Things like the ability to 'take from the cursor' to fill a time slot in the time line or to 'take up to cursor' to fill a gap in the timeline can save you a lot of time. You will have to read the instructions on the controls and then develop your own style that works best for you.

Most of what you have said is the way it works, but as you learn to use the other features, they will more than speed up your work.

Hi JB008,

There is a setting in the Options>preferences>editing to collapse the loop selector with no time selection... that may resolve your selection issue, and you can just play each clip in the trimmer from the head and mark the I and O,

Regarding saving stills, it does take a few steps. Project size, best quality, progressive mode - all contribute to better grabs.
