best render to maintain VOB quality?

Hello,

I have some VOB clips that I'm editing, and am rendering them as wmv files, with Best and 100% quality settings. The results look fine for the most part, but I want to zoom in on some of the clips, and when I do this, pixelation/blurriness ensues, even with the smallest zoom.

The original files are of decent quality, and I can deal with some slight loss of quality, which I know is part of the deal when zooming in on any clip, no matter what kind of file it may be.

But, I'm wondering if there is some settings that might retain the best quality during recompression to keep the pixelation to a minimum.

This will be used in a powerpoint presentation, so rendered file must be windows compatible.

Thanks for any help.

A little additional info (and a small bump)...

That when the preview window is on Best quality, the image appears to be better than the final rendered image, so that's why I'm thinking I can squeeze out some higher quality in the final product.

Thanks again for any input.

When starting your render click the Custom button, and in the first tab set the video rendering to Best. That will do the same thing for rendering that you're seeing in the preview window.

What format are you rendering to? Since you're going to be using this in PowerPoint there's no real reason to render back to MPEG2. You could render to DV or DivX at a high bitrate. DV doesn't have the best resolution, but it does recompress much less than MPEG. If you do want to stick with MPEG then consider a much higher bitrate, like 20Mbps instead of 6Mbps that is typical of DVDs.

I've rendered to .avi and .wmv with highest quality settings, and am still trying to squeak out a better image than I've been able to get from either of these (.wmv does better than .avi, tho). As you mentioned, because this will be used in a PowerPoint, I'm not rendering to mpeg.

Re: DV and DivX, where are these? I'm using V7, and don't see either of those as an option under my render as choices.

Thanks.

cAPTURE AND EDIT EVERYTHING AS A UNCOMPRESSED AVI FORMAT. WHEN USIING AFTER EFFECTS, BORIS, MAXON OR CAD ANIMATION PROGRAMS, RENDRE ALL THAT STUFF TO UNCOMPRESSED AVI FILES. MAKE SURE ALL RENDERS ARE IN THE PROPER VEGAS PROJECT SETTINGS AND RENDER AWAY. i HAVE NOTICED THAT THE QUALITY YOU PUT IN MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE. rENDER TO dv TAPE FROM THE TIMELINE TO AVOID DOUBLE COMPRESSION. dv USES A 5:1 RATIO. WHEN YOU HAVE A VOB FILE, IT IS BEST TO USE THE ORIGINAL FOOTAGE THAT CREATED THE VOB. GET LOTS OF HARD DRIVES AND ONLY CREATE/USE UNCOMPRESSED MEDIA FOR PROJECTS.
