Best settings for rendering a movie

I wish I knew the best render settings and codec to use when rendering a movie that will be played on Broadcast TV and also to be played on CD-ROM or DVD. Things like Pixel aspect ratio's, Which Codec to render with. For CD's I have been using MainConcept MPEG 1 with 720 x 486 with 29.97 Frame rate, Aspect Ration of 0.8889. Changing the Video quality slider doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference.
I printed the Vegas manual out and studied it along with buying the Vegas Video Tutorial book. Rendering to various settings are still vague in the books. Is there another source I can go to where I can learn more? There are so many variables with each custom setting starting with the Save as Type! I can create a great movie but I don't have a clue on the seemingly infinite render settings that work best in a perticular situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Bill,

For B'Cast, you might consider rendering using "Best Quality" and the default NTSC DV template (if yer in the USA). You should get lossless results.

For DVD, the VV3/MC encoder should give fine results to deliver to your authoring apps; if you provide more info, the DVD mavens can give you a lot of good tips, likewise for the CD rom.
