Best way to edit video

Just curious what you all do when editing video. I am working on my first real project: a Pee Wee Football DVD for parents that includes stills and video clips set to music. It will be about 45 minutes long. I have widdled my 800 pictures down to less than 200 and now I have to reduce my 60 minutes of video down to about 20 minutes.

I think what I am going to do is put the video on the timeline and just split and delete the segments I don't want. Is this the way most of you would do this?

If it's one big video clip then yes, that's exactly what I'd do. You can also use the trimmer do do this, but I prefer editing it on the timeline.

I'd probably work on 1 or 2 clips at a time - if I start with everything on the timeline I find myself just putting them in chronological order, which may not be the best way of doing things.

If it's one long clip, I'd use the trimmer to mark the regions you're interested in. Once marked, each region can then be added to the media pane, then you can drag/drop from there to the timeline and shuffle them around much more easily.

Thanks for your responses. I am currently trying both ways. I have found that if I want to keep my video in chronological order, splitting & deleting seems to work the best but when I want to shuffle the clips around, the trimming method makes it easier. Appreciate the help. I am just about done with my first project -- about 35 minutes of stills & video with about 7 songs. Next step will be to burn 25 copies for parents!
