Good suggestion.

When we first were budgeting a different show with a PBS sponsoring station, I lined up all the costs for transfer to HDCam, so this will be built in if the show makes it to PBS.

XDCAM discs might be an alternative, so thanks. For the earlier show, we might have been working with the Sony cameras that use those discs, so I had been looking at the disc burner/reader for post. Might be a sensible purchase still.

As your system does not seem too far removed from mine, perhaps I should start playing with DNxHD as well. Is it just a simple (free) download from Avid?

I just want to make sure that it is mentioned here that HDV footage will smart-render into bot mxf and XDCAM mp4 containers. I typically will smart-render to one of. These formats for two reasons:

1) The audio is uncompressed and thus doesn't get damaged on successive smart-renders.

2) The transitions and re-rendered parts seem to be higher quality in XDcam formats.
