Bezier Mask Question

MUTTLEY wrote on 6/17/2004, 4:13 PM
I'll try to keep this simple. Lets say I have a ball on one layer and want to use a Bezier mask to make the ball appear over something else. Can I move the Bezier mask without having to move each single point ? In track motion if you grab the center you can move the whole frame, that's basically what I want to do with the Bezier mask, grab the whole thing and move it.

Just cued up Spots vid on this and it says to Alt+Click on the frame to move the whole thing, when I do this its just moving that section not the whole thing.

Sorry if I'm not being clear, a little frazzled trying to make this work.

Thanks man, but I'm missing something.

It does turn all yellow, but as soon as I click the selection it just selects that part of the line between the two anchors and only moves that part of the selection.

Yeah, what Muttley said, boy am I missing something ...

Ray, to add to the suggestions (note all learned by trial and error yesterday and trying my best to understand what page 224 "Editing the Path" is trying to teach me ...

When you've got your mask, you probably have the anchor creation tool in focus (it's the thing that looks like a candle flame). To move your mask, you first want to select the normal edit (the arrow just above the flame). If you don't see any of this, you need to click down in the mask part of the pan/crop window. When you've got your arrow, move your mouse over the mask, and you should see the yellow path and the control points. Make sure your move freely, move x, move y is set the way you want.

Now, once you've got the nice all yellow, holding the alt key and you drag by big increments with the mouse. Hold alt+shift and you can drag by little increments.

All of this only partly solved my problem, because I was trying to mask a dog running across a field. So, every so often the legs would move. I wanted to move the mask in whole, then individually move some of the control points. For the live of me, I couldn't figure out how to move individual control points to the extent of following moving legs. So, to those bezier mask experts whom may read this, please add me to the list of "I'm missing something".

Sorry again, I've been burning the midnight oil and my mind is not so sharp this evening...I meant to say LEFT CLICK (not right click) the mouse over the bezier line when holding down the ALT key, and when the entire bezier line turns yellow...and is also showing all the square yellow anchor points, then you can move the mouse cursor over one of those anchor points and while still holding down the left mouse button, you can move the entire mask.

Dianne, if you are editing a moving object such as a running dog, then you will literally have to reposition each of the control points to follow the movement of the dogs legs as often as necessary to keep the mask over the dog. This can require a new bezier mask for every single frame using the key frames.
