Bezier Masking Tool

When trying to do a mask, the tool is supposed to turn into a pen when you enter the video preview pane. Not for me

I watched "VEGAS Movie Studio 16 - Flexible Bézier Masking Tutorial" on youtube,

at about 4:18 where the tool turns into a pen is where my trouble starts

 

My settings are as follows for mask 1, although I have kinda toggled them on and off

Enable 1: checked

Type: curve

Edit mode: checked

Edit tool: add

Does anybody have any non-derogatory ideas? 🤓

 

Lenovo Legion y7000 (Costco)

Windows 10 home 64 bit

i7 8750h

What is going wrong. Did you change the blend so you can see what you are masking?
