big disappointment

This program seemed great for the 1st couple of days when I realized all the power and versatility it had for under $100. Unfortunately it lacks the ability to do one of the most basic functions that even the outdated primitive NLEs can do. Insert or move a video clip anywhere in the timeline and have everything to the right automatically move over. Sure it can be done with a couple of steps but even with ripple edit on, this can't be done in one simple step. I bought this program so I could decide whether or not Vegas 5.0 would be a good prosumer choice. Does anyone know 5.0 has the same flaw? If so then it's ashame that such an impressive program loses out to say Pinnacle cause of such a ridiculous oversight.

When i have ripple edit on and i slide a clip, all the following clips move automatically with no extra steps. What are the couple of extra steps you need to do?

Please note that ripple edits have several modes of operation: single track, affected tracks, all tracks. Depending on what you need to do yo may have to switch modes.

I'm also still struggling with ripples. I have worked out how to make it fill in to the left when I remove a piece. But I still cant get it to move everything to the right when I insert a clip.

That's exactly where I'm at. I can get everything to slide to the left but not to the right. Right now the easiest way I'm inserting a clip is by adding time between clips. I was on pinnacle last night rearranging clips like crazy and I could never imagine being as productive on VMS unless there is something I haven't discovered just yet.

Have you guys tried the ripple insert? right-click on the media you want and place it on the timeline and select ripple insert. well.....only works on one track only.....gotta be very careful where you drop it as well coz if you place it in the middle of another event it splits it.

best solution is insert time. if you select an event on a track and insert time, it'll only affect that track. if you want to insert time to all tracks. just make sure you don't have any event selected/highlighted. I usually click on the blank space below the last track to clear selections, then position my cursor to insert time.

O.K. I figured out what I think is the easiest way to do this. If you right click the clip in the media pool and insert in trimmer, then all you have to do is insert it from the trimmer. (bottom of trimmer) It's an extra click of the mouse but at least it can be done. Still wish I could do it from the media pool but this will work.
