Bitmap Size Limit?

Hi there folks - New at VMS - but not NLE.
I have been pulling the 2 strands of hair I have left out because VMS9b keeps crashing everytime I try and render (mpg or blu ray) and also when I try and resize a bitmap.
I'm using footage and Images from a Canon 5D2 ;-)
Bitmaps are 5616 x 3744 (very nice for pan/zoom) and +/- 8.1MB I have a feling this is causing the problem but wouldn't mind a more experienced person's view

Older versions of Vegas used to crash with still images above size 2048 pixels. Vegas dealt with this with and upgrade, but I guess the 5D2 again pushes Vegas' limits.
You'll have to downsize your stills by trial and error.

(oh god, I'm so jealous ... a 5D Mark II ... so jealous...)

Try saving your bitmaps as .png
You will get some compression without loss and Vegas likes them much better than uncompressed.
