bizarre time on render test

ScottyLacy wrote on 11/9/2006, 6:50 PM
Just ran the latest render test on a Core 2 Duo 2.66 ghz with 4 GB of RAM. It indicated a render time of 24 minutes but then crashed before completing.

That can't be right, right? Aren't these times supposed to be in the sub-minute category? Can anyone explain such horrific performance on such a capable machine?

If you are talking about the newer HDV render test from VASST, then that is pretty good. Sorry can't remember the best times on that one.

My dual PIII, 1GHz took 10 hours. But at least it finished it. It crashed my P4 3.2 HT machine.

Oh, I must be thinking of a different test. I seem to recall folks talking about times just above the one-minute mark.

Also: Did my crash might have something to do with the intensive nature of the render test?

I believe that is the original render test veg.

28 sec on a e6600 Core 2 Duo so far. Recent discussion on this topic.

OK, now things are looking up. It took 24 seconds to render that .veg to a NTSC DV AVI file. I wasn't sure what format to render to, so if you happen to know that info, I'd be happy to have it.

Thanks for the help!

I think the right format is NTSC DV, BEST quality. It's important that you pick best quality, not good for this rendertest (so your results will match everyone else's).

NTSC DV avi at Best - 24 sec on a Core2Duo E6700 2.66Ghz

Nice to be fast again - I'm usually near the back of the pack!

Just checked. It was set at "best." Does this mean I have the new forum record? Or at least for a few days until someone comes along with a big, badder machine? :)
