Black glitches in preview.

Furqan wrote on 1/26/2025, 5:36 AM

Something I’m experiencing right after importing videos to the timeline. I didn’t add any elements, effects or luts on the video. It’s raw, straight out of camera.

Here’s a video showing the problem:

this video is shot on my iPhone 15 pro. I see the same issue with videos shot from other DSLRs at work. Would love some solutuon.

this is on vegas pro 22, the 194 version.

Thanks!

What about the newest build of 22? It was updated last week.

Thanks, I just updated to 229 build. But no change. Still facing the problem.

Could you please share your GPU model as well? It's in Windows device manager/display adapters if you don't know.

Furqan wrote on 1/26/2025, 7:44 AM

It's an RTX 4050 Laptop GPU

Is it possible to upload a video with black frames somewhere (Google Drive, etc.)? I'm not sure if this is a known issue or not.

I'm surprised it's happening to camera footage though. Could you share a short video from that camera, too? I have a RTX 4060 and can test.

I just tested the iPhone files I have here (not the 15 though) on two NVIDIA GPU laptops and didn't have any black glitches. If you could share any troublesome files we can see if it's the file or something else with VEGAS on your system.

Furqan wrote on 1/27/2025, 12:32 AM

How do I do that?

RogerS wrote on 1/27/2025, 12:37 AM

I suggested Google Drive. There are other services like Dropbox, Box, etc., etc.

Furqan wrote on 1/27/2025, 12:39 AM

Yeah, that I get it. I meant, where do I find these 'troublesome files'. Or you are talking about the editable files + my iPhone clips?

RogerS wrote on 1/27/2025, 12:59 AM

I am taking about the original files (media) you are having trouble with.

RogerS wrote on 1/27/2025, 2:24 AM

Thanks for sending this so quickly! I'll take a look in a bit.
Any instructions for reproducing beyond just loading the project and playing it back?

RogerS wrote on 1/27/2025, 2:41 AM

I downloaded and watched all the clips on this project (nice story by the way). I didn't see any black glitches with my RTX 4060 mobile. So based on this I don't think it's an issue with the media.

Could you share a screenshot of preferences, file io? This is mine:

I'd suggest a cleanup and reinstall of NVIDIA's current studio driver in case it helps (or the latest your laptop manufacturer provides.

Cleanup tool: https://developer.nvidia.com/downloads/cleanup-tool
New driver: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

Beyond that if VEGAS used to work try a reset?

Furqan wrote on 1/27/2025, 4:07 AM

Here's the screenshot.

(there's an error in the image upload. If you can't see it, here's a drive link)

I used the cleanup tool, restarted and reinstalled the new driver. I went back into Vegas to checked the video preview. I thought it worked, but I saw the issue repeating after playing back the video a second or third time.

By reset, you mean the one with Alt+D? The link you pasted for the word 'reset' took me to clean up tool site again.

I had a go with this project, just downloaded it and opened the Veg file with V22 latest version. Played back perfectly with no black frames. I used the latest game driver for the GPU.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

Furqan wrote on 1/27/2025, 8:23 AM

Now that you mention 'game drivers', I'm curious to know if game drivers and studio drivers ever have any difference.

RogerS wrote on 1/27/2025, 8:25 AM

Could you uncheck the legacy AVC box and try again? I also recommend unchecking experimental HEVC but that won't affect this file.

RogerS wrote on 1/27/2025, 8:26 AM

Game drivers and studio drivers are identical if the version number is the same. There are more releases of game drivers (game-specific patches) and in theory they aren't as well tested. In practice there's little difference and things have gone wrong with studio drivers as well.

@RogerS Thanks a lot. That worked. No black glitches now.
