According to Vegas' scope, the black of Vegas' timeline is lower than our DVCAM ftg captured via firewire. Why would the black level be different and how do you work regarding this issue?
They'll get clipped by most DVD players as will anything over 235.
Worse still levels below 16 can cause some things to loose sync. This is how I started off on this problem, every fade to black used to cause my TV to loose sync if I'd printed to VHS but not if I made a DVD.
Bottom line as I see the solution is this. Match your fades to whatever the rest of the media's blacks levels are. If the media has blacks at 0 and you add a track of 16 black at thhe bottom once you legalise everything you're quite likely to have your fades going to grey!
Same goes for peak whites, match your text or graphics to that as well. Add the BC FX with smoothing onto the bus master, job done.
Yes, some devices would clip as well. I was bit mislead because it sounded to me as if Sony DV would cause the clipping. But it's not Sony DV which does it, it's the device then. Sony DV just keeps the RGB ranges as they are.
"Add the BC FX with smoothing onto the bus master, job done."
Yes, that's my conclusion as well and that's how I treat my projects if there is a reason to avoid head- and/or footroom ranges.
