Black line on left side of frame - Canon GL1

Hey All,

I've come across a similar thread, but I can't find it in search. VV3 capture leaves a thin, black line on the left side of the frame. Choosing "fill frame" doesn't get rid of it. A quick tweak with pan/crop fixes it, but I'd like to know if there's a setting that will take care of it.

Thanks

KH

I have the same camera, and it does the same thing. Canon Elura doesn't do this, XL-1 does.

No problem for TV playback- you'll never see it. For streaming, you can crop it out, but I don't do that either- it blends in with the player edge and in most cases causes no problems.

The XM1 (same camera, but PAL)leaves a black edge on either side!
The reason is because the camera doesn't quite scan 720 pixels; the black edges represent the missing information.
While it is true that in normal use these edges won't be seen because of the overscanning on the TV, there are some transitions where the whole frame is seen - peels, fly-aways, etc. - when you might consider it something of a nuisance.
The thing that exercises me is who in the Canon design team thought it was a neat idea! It put me off buying it, whatever.
