Black Preview Screen

Does Magix have a plan to FIX the problem that Vegas Pro 20 has with track playback displaying as black on the Preview screen? The program plays the audio track but the video track playback is a black screen. I recently upgraded from Vegas Pro 17 to Vegas Pro 20 and I am regretting that decision. My Vegas Pro 17 version plays my video footage and the audio as the program should. My computer hardware is update and is functioning well. I know this because my other video and graphic software is functioning properly. If Magix does not have an answer for this flaw in their new video program 20 version then I would like a refund. If there is no fix then the Magix product is defective.

Vegas 20 works well at me on laptop and desktop from signature.
I like to help you, can you place here a screenshot of the total interface while your problem is executing?

VP20 also works well for me. No black screen preview.

If you want help, I suggest you start HERE by answering the questions in "B" and "C". Saying your computer is up to date and functioning well is one thing, knowing what your computer hardware is, is something entirely different and required to possibly help you.

If no one but you has this "flaw", where does the problem lay?

Not all types of media are supported in VEGAS. What is yours specifically?

@DD2023ART Hi, I'm not the biggest defender of Vegas so i will say it how it is, & i read pretty much all the comments but there's no 'flaw' like this that has been posted about, , I suspect as has been mentioned it's either your PC or your media?. ,

j-v, thank you for offering to help!

I thought about my media files (.mov) and I did put it to the test with Premiere Pro (2023), After Effects (2023), Premiere elements (2021), and even Windows Video editor, those same .mov files played as expected. No issues. Conducting my own research online many users of Vegas Pro 20 are experiencing a problem with video track playback not appearing on the Preview monitor. No picture (black screen). Some articles suggests that the problem may be with the Plug-In: so4compoundplug.dll or that Vegas Pro 20 simply will not work with .MOV media files. Either way, Vegas Pro 20 is not working for me.

j-v, I attached a screenshot.

@DD2023ART Hi, you need to share the MediaInfo asked for in the link in @Reyfox's comment & your PC specs, full name of CPU & GPU & the amount of RAM, you can you click your icon at the top of this page - My Profile & fill in your Signature with those details, also inc your Windows & Vegas version, this will then show at the bottom of your comments,

.MOV is simply a container, I use them all the time, within that container is the information about your media, what that info is will determine how well it plays.

In that link there's an App called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here 👍

Do you have Quicktime installed? & have Quicktime ticked in Preferences - Depreciated Features?

You say -

Conducting my own research online many users of Vegas Pro 20 are experiencing a problem with video track playback not appearing on the Preview monitor. No picture (black screen).

can you share links to those articles? Like i said I read pretty much all the posts in this forum, there are some reasons why a clip wouldn't show in the Preview window but there hasn't been one definitive 'flaw' that causes a black window noted in the posts here.

-----------

PS. you can if you want share that file of the boats,

  1. Drag it on Google Drive, let it upload,
  2. Once uploaded right click on it - Share,
  3. In the Pop-up - General Access - change it to 'Anyone with the link'
  4. Copy Link - & share the link on here using the chain button at the top of a new comment

PPS,

A .MOV file is one of the most common video file types, often storing a movie, TV show, short video clip, or home movie. It is saved in the QuickTime File Format (QTFF), a multimedia container format developed by Apple. Video editors commonly save video as MOV files due to their support for high-quality video.

Apple and Adobe have a long history of both agreement and opposition. They've been closely linked since the early days of desktop publishing, often with complementary product lines and common customers

Premiere Pro (2023), After Effects (2023), Premiere elements are all Adobe software so there's no surprise the .MOV files work in there.
