black rectangle on screen

For some reason a small black rectangle showed up on my screen and stays there throughout the entire movie, but there is nothing extra on the timeline, like a title page, that might carry a rectangle. Does anyone have any ideas? Could I have done something while messing around with the Options, Tools, or Pan menus?

How about posting the VEG file somewhere so we can look at it?

I think you may have split-screen preview turned on. While it is on, clicking and dragging over the preview window will display the clipboard contents in the selected area. If nothing is on the clipboard, it will be black. Click on the "Split Screen View" button which is just to the left of the preview quality above the preview window. Better?
