Blank clips in timeline

Hi all, first timer so please be gentle..... Im trying to edit my first project with Vegas Platinum 10, and im finding that on some of the edited clips on my timeline, they are simply turning blank, becoming a black videoless clip. It seems to be purely at random, and will sometimes revert with a restart, othertimes the clip goes blank for good. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
Is it me or is this the most bug ridden POS software out there? whatever happened to quality control at Sony?

All help hugely appreciated.

Where are your clips coming from? How are you getting them into your computer? What file type, format, & codec are they?

Your problem is that you don't have a codec installed for these types of videos, it's not Sony's problem. There are over 50 different codecs out there, a video editor can only have support for so many of them. For the rest, you need to install codecs manually.

You ask us to be nice then disparage the software. Good start.

Ok folks, the files are .mov shot at 720p, mostly from a Contour GPS helmetcam, occasional bits from my Sony mobile, but also at 720p. It doesnt seem to matter which the source is - the clips drop their content at random. When i close down and restart sometimes they reappear, sometimes they dont and sometimes a totally clip, or bunch of clips will disappear. The actual edit portion of the clip remains in the timeline, but the content turns blank. I gather that Vegas isnt a fan of .mov, but it doesnt explain why the clips will disappear at random. Its really frustating...any ideas?

These h.264/AAC MOV files are supported by Vegas Platinum 10 fine. If it's not too much work, please shoot 3-4 clips, no more than 10 seconds long each, zip them, and upload them on a server where we can download and test them ourselves too.

Fill out your system specs in your user profile. Knowing what your working on may help. Are these files on a network attached storage drive (NAS)?
