Blank events!?

Arnar wrote on 4/26/2004, 2:27 PM
This has happened to me in Vegas 4 as well as Vegas 5 but its getting to annoying.

What happens is that i have blank events in a project i.e when right clicked they do not show any option, cant select in media pool or make sublip or do anything with the clip.

It does not turn up as missing in the load of the project or anything, its just blank , no sound???

Anyone had this happen...

Im just backing up my album that i have (luckily) just released but i find my tunes are ruined, its simply devestating when i cant trust the save!?!?

it happens sometimes if your media has moved folders or become corrupt, or if there are media with the same name in the same folder.

just organise your media files carefully and it won't happen.

The way to get round it is to copy the media to where it used to be and it seems to recognise it provided you haven't saved over the project file.

Arnar,

How did these empty events you are talking about get created?

Empty Events exist by design - to give you a placeholder for recording or dropping media as takes into, or as a placeholder for missing media. Normally Empty Events are created from the Insert->Empty Event Menu - the key combination ALT+I+E will also create an empty event.

Since there is no media in an Empty Event, none of the menu options that require media are going to be useful – so the menus are disabled.

These "empty" events used to contain sound and they were inserted by either recording them into the project or dragged from the explorer.
I have never used the insert empty event.

Im usually very careful about all my media , naming and folder placements.
Im sure there is no other file in the project with the same name.

This happened the other day with a recording i was doing where a LOT of the files went empty on me. Obviously the client wasnt very happy and insisted this was his best performance (yeah right)

But i couldn´t fix it ! So we had to record again.

This has happened to me also in Vegas 2...inexplicably...I was working on some new drum tracks around track 22-23, and when I went back up to the top saw that I lost most of my vocals. Tracks were there, some events still existed within them (at splits), but most were gone. Oh, I found them in the media pool, but trying to reassemble them was like doing a jigsaw puzzle with non-descript pieces...never did figure out what happened.

Yes I remember having events disappear from the track view in Vegas 2. I don't recall whether it has happened in Vegas 3 – if it has, its been quite a while but this discussion jogged my memory of this. The events were in the media pool and luckily they were all recorded from the beginning of the timeline and I could just drag them back in place. However, it freaked me out because on one occasion a bunch of events disappeared! I thought I'd lost a couple of days work!

I too had this pop up in Vegas 3 a while ago. Similar scenario: recorded an event, later opened the project (or even just scrolled down to higher track numbers then scrolled back up to earlier tracks/takes) to find random events empty.

If I remember right, I could right-click the blank event, turn on the normalize, then go right back and turn normalize back off. The .wav data would be back again and play normally.

After one of the later updates that bug seemed to disappear. Give it a try and see if it works.
