I was wondering if Sony has a DVD Authoring software that will burn HDV MPEG2 to Blu ray disk?> If not is there a PC DVD authoring software that will burn to Blu ray disk?.
Debuman didn't buy the "wrong" player, he just needed to update the firmware. Except for the first-generation Samsung players, all current models seem to play burned Blu-ray discs just fine. There were a certain percentage of early DVD players which couldn't play burned media, but their firmware couldn't be upgraded. The Blu-ray compatibility situation has proven to be better in that regard.
Regarding burners, all of them seem to work fine as well. One thing to consider is that not all Blu-ray burners will burn dual-layer 50GB media and are limited to 25GB single-layer media. There doesn't seem to be a lot of price difference between those that can and those that can't.
I have a Panasonic SW-5582, which is a first-generation 50GB dual-layer capable 2x speed burner, and it produces discs which have played perfectly on a variety of players. It's really not that big a deal and will be even less of a deal for DVD Architect users when the free v5 update shows up soon. I've done close to a hundred Blu-ray projects using Adobe Encore CS3, but I'm anxious to try out DVD Architect v5 when available.
I see that this thread went dormant since June 13, but maybe i'll get some input. Has anybody tried burn BR disc on a standard disc, the way i can burn AVCHD disc on standard disc? I did this in VP8.0c and was surprized that it didn't tell me to insert a Blu Ray disc (i don't even have a BR burner on my computer, but thought I'd just try this for fun and see what happened). Vegas burned the disc and it plays on the computer - no menu or chapters, which I did have selected when i did settings in the burn disc dialogue. However it doesn't play in my BD30 player which is set up with my Sony Bravia HD TV. I updated the firmware, after reading this thread and it still gives me the message uncompatible disc. Nero player indicates that it recognizes that this is a blu ray disc but that this version of Nero can't play it. I think it's version 7.
I assume that everything y'all have addressed in this thread concerns the very expensive blu ray recordable discs.
