Blu-ray can store 25GB on single layer and 50GB on dual layer.
As far as quality, you have essentially two options unless you're working wth data files. If it's for playback, either MPEG 2 or AVCHD will be your options.
Let's not forget the overhead. We're lucky to squeeze 22gb on a 25gb blu-ray. Forget dual layer for now; too expensive.
AVC would be nice, but vegas seems to be having trouble making these files without error. And I hear some older blu-ray players can't play them right either.

Do you have first-hand knowledge and know either of these things for a 100% certainty? I really wish people wouldn't post unsubstantiated rumors on the forum. I heard that Obama isn't an American, but that sure as hell isn't true.
I heard a lot of those same type of rumours furring the HD-DVD/Blu-ray battle, usually stated by the opposition, and it went both ways. Sadly unfounded rumours have a tendency to stick at times.
The three codes supported by Blu-ray are in the BD 1.0 specification, so all players must support them, or they can't be called Blu-ray or carry the logo.
