Although the article gets it wrong about HDMI since Sony have announced that high def through component will be allowed with BR players. That means that I will be getting a BR player and not HD DVD.

My understanding is that BR players will output video through component outputs, but that it will be downconverted to SD on anything that is copywrited, not that this makes any sense. Maybe I just got it wrong. I sure hope so!

The prices are about what I'd expect them to be.

I don't know why folks expect new technology to be the same price as old technology.

If and when Blu-Ray and HD-DVD get going, it will be a vast improvement over the current DVD standard. I'd expect those blank media prices to drop at least 50% after 12 months.
