Bluray files on DVD for PS3

Hi guys
I have a STACK of footage that I've taken with a Sony FX1 that I once owned (*sniff*) that is still on tape. I'm now capturing the tapes and hoping to be able to put the footage on a normal DVD for viewing on a PS3 in 1080i until I get a bluray burner (and to be able to afford the media!). Is there a best practice for this?
I want to lose as little as possible in the compression as I want to use the files on the DVD when I get a BD burner to create BD discs.
Clear as mud?

Thanks heaps!
Tim

Worked out how to do it in DVD architect -BUT, I want to render in V8.1 to take advange of the alleged extra grunt!
What settings?

UPDATE: My attempt in DVDA looks like uprezzed SD footage! missing the clarity.
I had the bitrate set to 17Mbps....

UPDATE 2: Re-did it ising 25Mbps - a little better but nowhere near as good as I thought it would be...
Maybe I'm expecting too much from the FX1? I was expecting razor sharp, being-able-to-see-every-blade-of-grass clarity......

UPDATE 3: Original files were 1440x1080, so I rendered them out from vegas at 1440x1080 (I was was rendering them 1920x1080) with some slight sharpening, AND, encoded at 25Mbps CBR. Looks MUCH better! Nice and crispy.
