Bluray production not happening

terry-c wrote on 8/29/2025, 6:02 AM

I recently purchased Magix movie studio suite 2025 after an email offering 50% discount. Up to now I have used Sony Vegas movie studio 13 & before that 11 version. I am struggling with 2025 version as it seems to crash a lot & has a mind of its own. I still have Sony MS13 which I am very familiar with having made lots of Blurays & DVDs of holidays, shows, pantomimes etc over the past few years. My problem is I did uninstall it & reinstall it at some point & I seem to remember there was an update at some point to install the MP4 codec which I obviously dont have & cannot find any way to obtain it. I am trying to make a Bluray disc of my holiday which will include video from Sony camcorder AVCHD, & Canon M50MKii, Samsung S23 which are both MP4 I think.

I would appreciate any help so I can finish it & then hopefully learn Magix 2025

Please be aware that MAGIX Movie Studio 2025 is a completely different product to SONY Movie Studio (later VEGAS Movie Studio which was discontinued several years ago). For issues with MAGIX Movie Studio, you will need to post on MAGIX's Movie Studio forum at https://www.magix.info/us/video-forum/movie-studio/

Re Sony Movie Studio, it became apparent recently that Sony has closed down its server that enabled registration/activation of Sony-era Movie Studio and Vegas Pro - this may well be why additional codec licensing such as .mp4 (AVC) is not working. Vegas Support has provided the following information about how to register/activate Sony-era software via your MAGIX My Account - https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support?question=425797&category=168278&title=vegas-13-and-previous-sound-forge-11-and-previous-acid-7-and-previous-can-be-activated-offline-

Whether or not this will enable additional codec licensing such as .mp4 AVC - I don't know.

@terry-c You don't need "mp4 codec" for blu-ray rendering. Also mp4 file type is something different to mpeg-4 video codec.

Are you having problems importing your camera files? If so what exactly happens/doesn't happen?

Samsung S23 ... MP4 I think.

Only if you have switched to H.264 from the default HEVC setting in Samsung S23's camera's settings (via the camera settings' cog wheel). If your Samsung S23's phone is recording video in HEVC, do not expect that video to be useable in Sony Movie Studio 11 or 13 - certainly, HEVC video from my Samsung S23 Ultra won't import into my Sony Vegas Pro 13.

Thank you. Yes my S23 has recorded video as HEVC which I believe is H265. I did try reinstalling Vegas movie studio 13 & it said there was an update so I went from Build 943 to Build 987 but that made no difference It just ignores the clips & says it cannot open them. I have VLC media player & went in to convert from H265 to H264 but same thing it wont open the clips so reluctantly I will have to ditch Vegas movie studio 13 & persevere with learning Magix 2025.

Hi

. . . . persevere with learning Magix 2025 . . . .

In this case, you need to be in the Movie Studio, now called Video Deluxe, 2025 forum here your login details for this forum should work over there.

I would suggest, as your starting point, this list of tutorials to help you get started.

Convert your clips to H264 with free Shutter Encoder or Handbrake and VMS13 should handle them.

@terry-c There is another issue here to consider. MP4 files are not compatible with the DVD or Blu-ray specs, which appears to be the intended destination for your videos. So they will have to be converted, either by your video editor, or DVDA if you use it, to compliant files.

It might be preferable to convert your camera files initially before editing rather than after rendering your project. In that way you can be sure adjustments, FX etc are behaving as intended. Personally I'd use Shutter Encoder to convert them to m2ts files with H264 video and either AC3 or PCM audio.

Lastly your Samsung files are probably VFR (variable framerate). When converting go for CFR (Constant framerate) as video editors sometimes struggle with VFR. Although with my own Samsung Galaxy A16 I find a recent Android system update has altered how my videos are recorded and horrendous framerate variation has gone and they are effectively CFR.
