No, not really...well yes waves like that but in expanding circles, I dont think that FX can do that :(

You can get particle illusion. You can get a FREE copy if you buy DIGIT magazine #064. It costs $13.50. A major book store should have it (borders, barnes and noble, etc). That will do what you want, with some tweaking.

You can also find the magazine at larger computer stores. For example I'm in the Chicago area, and I just picked up a copy at Micro Center near Cass and Ogden in Westmont. They also have probably the biggest selection of computer books in the area. Looks likes about 5,000 titles at least. BIG computer store too, about 30,000 square feet. -:)

If you had footage of some similar waves, you could use the displacement mapping tools to map your footage on the wave footage.

For example a rock dropped into a pond or perhaps even a bathtub would create circular waves expanding out from the center similar to shock waves.

The dmnforums just had a displacement mapping tutorial.
