Border changing colour

I know this is logical for Vegas to do, but I'm keyframing a shot from full colour to B&W, and the border - which is a specific colour - is also going to B&W. Any way of stopping this happening? Thinking maybe a mask??

Only way I could manage this was a solid colour slightly bigger beneath, instead of a border, then fade both together

Maybe you should make the frame as .png in a separate track?
