Boris FX, Graffiti, AE & Vegas

I already have AE but really like the fact that Boris FX and Graffiti work in Vegas. Is anyone using these programs? Do they work well as a plug in for Vegas or should I just stick with using AE? I've heard the good and the bad.
I have heard these programs were buggy and crash Vegas and that they have a really steep learning curve.

Yes, I would love to have Boris Red but can't afford it right now.

I use RED and it is pretty stable, there are a couple of issues but it has just undergone a major upgrade to V3 I am sure the 3.01 will not be long.

I have not checked the pricing but I would have thought FX+Graffiti would come close to the cost of RED

I do some stuff in Vegas and some stuff in the stand alone RED engine.

Vegas+Boris integration is a must, IMHO

A demo is available from the Boris site. As for the learning curve, yes it is a big package but if you are used to AE concepts etc it should be an enjoyable one.

Thanks. That posting caused a lively debate. Just because a program will work together with our NLE program of choice (Vegas) doesn't mean it's the best program to use. We also pay dearly for this luxury. AE 6 Pro $995, Commotion Pro 4.1 was $995, Combustion 3 $995. Boris Red $1,595. Talk about srewing us for the sake of convience? I don't know about some of you but an extra $600 is a LOT! Even Discreet lowered their prices thousands of dollars to compete in the consumer, prosumer markets.

Is Boris Red really better than AE Pro 6 or Combustion 3? So I have to transfer an uncompressed avi file, big deal.

I'm with you, dholt. I'm inclined to think Red is overpriced.

One advantage I can see of using something that plugs in to Vegas is you don't have to mess with masks/keying to preserve alpha channels if you want to do transparencies in Vegas. (Of course, you can also just do the transparencies in AE).

I find the Boris interface much more confusing than my old 4.1 version of After Effects. But then, I started editing on Adobe products, so that may just be my preference.

Certainly the bugginess of the Boris demos didn't impress me much.

At this point I'd say stick with AE. That's what I plan to do when I can scrape together the cash for the upgrade.

Red isn't buggy at all, unless you use some of the Fire presets, and that's about settled out.

I have been using Graffitti 3.0 with Vegas and it is extremely cool.

Yes, there is, in my opinion, a steep learning curve for Graffitti, but I figure that's just the cost of doing business. Just gotta tough it out.

It's too bad that Red is so outrageously priced. They would make a lot more money were they to lower their price substantially. But if they lowered it tomorrow, it would be too late; I already bought Graffitti. It seems like businesses don't think ahead sometimes.

Graffitti is a very nice compliment to Vegas.

Kentwolf - The manual is very thick. I've started to apply myself to this task. I have too say, the manual is very well written, and once started, I've been faily flying through it. I do like the plugin option directly to Vegas. In terms of its learning curve, have you thought about Intelligent Assistant? Have you and I covered this in a previous thread? Anyways, I've been in contact with Boris HQ and they now have the option for users of Graf3 to obtain the activation key [ $69 ] to "expand" the sample IA with its full example listings available to us "budding" Graffiti Artists. I may consider doing this . . . .

Sorry, I actually posted a question in another post regarding the usability/output quaility of this package but I am hoping to find some opinions from users of the app (wildFx Pro from wildform.com) anyone tried it? Might it be a "poor man's" alternative to Graffitti or perhaps a complement to Vegas titling tooL?

Thanks for any help,

Paul.

I like Wildform- some cool looks, best flash-text presets and UI I've seen in an inexpensive package.

I recently purchased Wild FX for the titling and the other package Flix Pro that lets you do the vector stuff to video. I've yet to get into them and try them out. In the samples, the choices for text options and animations in Wild FX seems fantastic. Plus, it can be output as an AVI. Buying those packages was out of a gut feeling that they will help me out someday. I hope I spent well on them.

I am not buying ONE - MORE - THING! :)

...at least not today...

>>...Have you and I covered this in a previous thread?...

Just Graffitti in general, I believe.

I do not see any sample AI. It only tells me that it's not installed on the system.

Input?

UPDATE: I found it on the CD. Never mind.
