Boris FX Install Problem

dxdy wrote on 10/21/2011, 7:38 AM
I downloaded the Boris FX 9 trial yesterday and installed it for Vegas Pro 10. When I go to use one of the effects, there is no trace of it in plugin manager or the FX list when I run VP 10 32 bit (download is 32 bit only).

Has anyone else had this problem?

I can see a Boris install from the start button, and there are 3 Boris dll's in Program Files/Sony/Vegas Pro 10.0/Video Plug-Ins

Win 7 64 bit Home Premium, VP 10e

I don't think it is supported in either vp10 or vp11; just 9. However, Boris RED is, and if you can afford to get I recommend that you do. It is a great tool.

Right you are ... de-installed, and re-installed Boris FX for Vegas 9 and it shows up. Strange, because they did give the option of installing for Vegas 10 32 bit in the installer.

Thanks for the tip.

I downloaded the Boris FX 9.3 trial, and finally got it to work (mostly) under Vegas Pro 9. I have a big chromakey job and some of the lighting is challenging.

I sent an email to Boris support 3 days ago, and they have not responded, so I would like to ask you on the forum if you are using it and how you got it working.

I do have it installed, and I can do a chromakey effect on a video within VP 9 32 bit. I have labored through all the tutorials I can find, but they appear to be setup for the full BCC package, and not everything they tell you to do is available.

If I could get it to work in VP 11, or even 10 I would be more inclined to buy it.

But one of the big issues I have is not being able to access BCC Light Wrap from the timeline, the tutorials show it appearing under the compositing mode button, Custom, 2-to-1 Transforms, but on my install BCC Light Wrap is not visible. It does show up when I am in the Fx menus, but the Use Background option is marked (Set in Timeline).

So far, I have gotten better keys from the the standard Vegas secondary color corrector than from the Boris package.

Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Fred

Fred it’s a bit bizarre that Boris brought out BCC7 and Red 05. When Red 05 would be adequate

What BCC7 is doing is working within Vegas compositing structure so since Vegas works in a layered structure you are limited. Therefore BCC7 works with your current video format/code on the Sony Vegas TL on the….. event level.
RED 05 on the other hand works on the…track level….. allowing you to composite with Boris brilliant composite structure with your current event media on the Sony Vegas TL. for example add fx red 05 on the event and you will only have a still frame that you will be working with, but add fx red 05 on the track and it’s the complete track. I take it this is because on the event level Boris works within the Sony Vegas compositing structure.

The setback from Boris side is .it does not support all the formats that Sony Vegas does so ultimately you have to encode all your media to formats that Boris supports.
So the best way to work with Boris RED in Vegas is..insert a video track…insert empty event. Place red fx on empty event, open red in red select filter on filter media track select your media
Set your params and apply back into Vegas.

I Have all Boris fx packages and have not used fx 09 for about 2 years now as RED 05 and 04.3 filled my requirements. So from memory it worked the same as Red 4.3

To simplify I am using RED 05 on the track level to accomplish what BCC7 does on the event level but I still have all the other advantages of 3d text and red compositing features which are enormous
compared to BCC7.
