I think it's a great tool, great add on to the product. Allows for some very cool tricks. Then again, i'm a Red fan anyway.

Prepare for some serious learning time. I bought it and haven't yet brought myself to plow through more than about 10 of the 500 pages of the manual!

i just bought it ( $250 for Vegas users) and like it so much. i started playing with it as soon as i got it and was not dissapointed with my purchase. i just wish i could also extrude other vector files aside from fonts and the shapes it came with but i guess if i want that, i would have to cough up an additional $700 or so to upgrade to RED.

I agree with bgccdx. I too have found the learning curve particularly steep. Owners of BG3 do have the option to purchase the full version of Intelligent Assistant. I may very well consider doing this.

Form what I have read so far there is much on offer in BG3. The Manual is very well written. Not only does it tell WHAT to do . .as you'd expect . . but it also adds that little extra . .and that is the WHY you are doing something. This I haven't found very often in other manuals or online support. On reflection I should imagine the 600 page manual reflects this attention to detail. IMHO this approach by the BG3 manual authors, with these expansive explanations, are similar to our colleagues here that write clear and accessible tutes for Vegas.

. . .Now if SPOT would consider . . . but I suppose he has his time cut out on other things.

Oh yes, I SHALL persevere with BG3.0 - I've had to get a major Diwali project outta the way before I could start playing/learning.

Grazie

Nothing really to add except to re-iterate that the feeling that while you can
do a lot of things with Graffiti you will be begging to click back to vegas after an hour or two in the pop-up/integrated graffiti application.

I have done a few short title sequences with it now and i almost feel as though I am not totally lost now...Still having trouble doing basic things without liberal use of Undo...

I received my copy of BG3 on Thursday. I am finishing up four disks and wanted to use it for titles. Loks like a great program but I had to finish project and di not have time to incorporate a lot. THe three things I did include look awesome!

I am also having problems with getting it to work consistantly within Vegas - I believe that may be a user problem and not a software issue.

I would recommend highly

I've been using it and it's very good.

I *am* actually starting to actually learn it.

Only complaint: It sure takes a REALLY long time to render what look to be pretty simple titles. (AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1 GB RAM)

Aside from that, it's great.

I'd still buy it again.

Hi Guys!

Mandk - Can you outline what problems you are having? At present I wouldn't have any answers. But if you could delineate what they are I could also look out for them. A problem "shared . .etc etc. For example is it the way Sony-Vegas integrates with BG3?

Kentwolf - "I'd buy it again" - HAH! Very good. Do you have any tips in understanding the Sony-Vegas plugin interface? Do you do the work outside of V-S or do you use the plugin option? Wow, you've got a beefy pc. Mines a 3.2 running 2gb RAM. It would be good to compare stats when I'm further along with it. I'm putting aside some "Quality-Time" over the holidays to get my brain cell around it . . . . . Are there any pitfalls or logic traps I/we should be aware/careful of? What's been the most frustrating item you come across? Did you learn via the Manual - page-by-page - or did you go via the online help? You most likely went both ways . . yeah? Did you contemplate getting Intelligent Assistant?

Sorry, lots of questions . . . . most likely I'll produce more . . .

Best reagrds,

Grazie

The primary problem I am having is launching Graffiti from within Vegas. I get a repeated message indicating the timeline cursor must be over the event for the initial launch.

It appears to me the cursor is in the correct place but just will not launch the program. My work around was to prepare something in Keyframer and import it into vegas. Use this to launch the program and then redo the effect. (not a pretty work around but will do it for me until I can reread the manual.)

Thanks for your offer of assistance.

I also had the program crash vegas in the middle of an effect preparation (First time Vegas has crashed for me in 6 months of use so I am blaming it on the graffiti program)

I would agree that I would buy it again but I have had 2 crashes of vegas
when returning from the plug-in.

I have also had a few cases where try as I may, I could not get anything I did in the plugin launched version to stay around. I would hit the apply, the keyframer would close then sometimes I could play the video once from the timeline and it would go black. Go back into the plugin and all of the settings were gone...Grr.

So far I have been working around the "quirks" but if I were up against the wall and doing thi,der a living I would probably not try to use it as a plugin just yet.

>>Do you have any tips in understanding the Sony-Vegas plugin interface?

Actually, it's all in Graffitti. You basically leave Vegas and enter BorisFX land.

>>Do you do the work outside of V-S or do you use the plugin option?

Plug-in option.

>>Wow, you've got a beefy pc.

My wife think it stil performes like my old Pentium 2 at 450 Mhz...Sees no difference...funny...

>>Are there any pitfalls or logic traps I/we should be aware/careful of?

I am certainly not qualified to offer advice on Graffitti. You just gotta tough it out.

>>What's been the most frustrating item you come across?

Slow render times at times. I did not really investigate it, but it *looks* like it's faster to render (to DV, AVI) 3-5 seconds titles individually than to render them all in a row. If it's not, it sure seemed that way. I know it makes no sense, but that is how it appears.

>>Did you learn via the Manual - page-by-page - or did you go via the online help?

On-line help only.

>>Did you contemplate getting Intelligent Assistant?

Yes, but in my opinion, it just basically looks like the kind of help file that should be part of the package. It's kind of like a deluxe help file. Pretty bad when you have to upgrade Help files...kind of like extended warranties.

...and there ya' go...

Thank you.

Kentwolf - Thanks for taking the time out to answer my questions. Very much appreciated.

I understand - I could be wrong here - that with IA you get "video" files of How To's - bit like your own Tutor . . . Oh yes, I would have agreed that the purchase appears as an "upgrqade" to help files . . like your comment about extended warranties .. . These Training Files appear to have a lot more. I haven't tried it yet, but there is an IA sampler on BG3 install that gives us the first 55pages for/as an example to make a decision option as to buying the full IA for BG3 . . . but yes, buying an helpfile seems a bit "rich". BTW, the same company does training modules for the most of other NLE packages we talk about. So their expertise appears to be quite wide-ranging.

Thanks again Kentwolf,

Grazie

Hey!

I see no info as to how to buy IA (on their web site).

Is this a phone-call-only thing?

Seems they'd sell a lot more if they were to post details.

(Just out of curiousity, where are you located? England or something like that?)

Thanks!

Okay KW:

1 - Openning Page of IA for BG3

2 - Contents of the Intelligent Assistant for Boris Graffiti

Any good?
