Boris Sapphire plays @ 2-3fps?

Gid wrote on 8/18/2024, 12:38 PM

Hi, can someone try this & maybe explain pls?

If I add any Boris Sapphire fx onto any media @ any FR or preview quality, (I haven't tried all fxs but I've tried 10-15 of them) -

VP21 (315) works & plays correctly @ full fps.

VP22 - I get 2-3fps playback,

If I turn off the GPU in Preferences - Video I get full fps playback but I have no integrated GPU & obviously I don't want to turn off my GPU. ?🤷‍♂️

I've tried pretty much everything, I posted on the Boris forum with no solution, there's video in the comment on the Boris forum.

This is what I wrote on there.

Hi, I can’t work this out, I tried a lot of things but I’m now back to sq 1. VP21 (314) ‘Flickers’ correctly, VP22 doesn’t, it plays at 2-3fps.

I tried all settings I could in VP inc resetting VP & Nvidia Control Panel display properties.
What I found was if I unticked ‘Enable GPU’ in S-Flicker - Help, playback increased to 9fps from 2fps.
So I turned off my GPU in VP’s Preferences, S-Flicker playback was full fps as it should be., but
I don’t have integrated graphics on my CPU so my GPU is now turned back on,
I downloaded & rolled back GPU Studio drivers 4times (4versions back) with no improvement. I’m back on the latest Studio driver. (I tried the Gaming driver with no luck)
I’m not sure what to do but it seems like it’s a VP22 problem on my PC, so I’ll post on the Vegas forum & maybe someone has a solution or a similar problem & it will get recognised.
Thanks for checking

Thanks..

@Gid sorry my friend, but I don't have Sapphire. Much too expensive for me.

I hope that they answer you soon.

@Reyfox Thanks, I don't think I'll be renewing this Sapphire licence, previous versions on previous VP's have always been a bit slow with playback but they were just slow, you could tell the PC & VP were doing some work, initially 10-20fps on a 30fps project but a few loop plays would sort that out, the last version on VP21 played quite well & so does this one the latest Sapphire build, but VP22 ---- Nope 🤷‍♂️

Boris did reply -

We are struggling to reproduce this issue. UHD clip with S_Flickers works as expected in VP 21 and VP 22. Is there anything else in your sequence besides the clip?

Nope, it plays at 2-3fps with any media, ProRes, MP4, PNG's......

---------------------------

Build Dynamic Ram does work & makes it play at full fps but it isn't fast which makes it a bit hard to use these fxs.

@Gid, I'd ask for the system builds they are using and what fps do they see.

For me, Continuum is more than enough for what I do.

@Reyfox Yep I considered asking them but as with anything 'bug' related there's a huge range of PC setups, I'd have thought an RTX3090 would be on their list + an AMD CPU with no integrated GPU. (I assume they checked my PC specs that are in my profile), I didn't really want to insult them by asking if they tried it on a PC the same as mine. It's interesting that it works if I turn off my GPU, I'm not sure exactly what that does reg CPU etc.

There's a few nice fxs in the Sapphire list but I've got a feeling I'm going to have to make do with Continuum & as I said Sapphire has always been a bit 'iffy' so I often don't even look in that department.

Hopefully it's a VP22 thing & future VP updates will fix this, saying that I (& the VP team) need to know if it affects other users

@Gid VP22 seems to introduce a new option in Preferences: Preferences -> File I/O -> Enable direct GPU import path. You can try unchecking it. This solved my Ignite Pro problem with VP22.

@zzzzzz9125, I don't have Sapphire, but I do have Ignite Pro 5. I did turn off GPU import, and tried Ignite, and still black. So I turned it back on, and Ignite is working for now.

@zzzzzz9125 Excellent, that works, full fps straight away.......... oh wait now it doesn't.. removed the fx, added a different S _fx, back to 2fps, removed that & added the previous one that was playing full fps & it's now playing at 2fps 🙃

It seems to mess with my GPU's head, it plays then stops, I noticed this before turning that option off.

@Reyfox Maybe it has something to do with a particular GPU, my NVIDIA asking me to turn it off and your AMD asking you to turn it on.

I don't have Sapphire either, so I can't test it... (I did but it was too expensive) It needs other users with Sapphire and NVIDIA/AMD GPU as a test.

However, this option seems to be so unstable that users don't even know whether to turn it on or off...

@zzzzzz9125 I initially had it check marked. Unchecked, and still black. So I check marked it again, and for whatever reason, it is now working.

Strange that it wasn't working before.... but I'll take it!
