Bought HF10 but only have Vegas 7.0

Well, went ahead and bought the Canon Vixia HF10.
I currently only have Vegas 7 and would prefer NOT to buy 8 (but wait a few months and pray for 9)

Taking that as a given - what is the best way I should be editing?
Do I use Canon's product to downgrade?
Some third party SW?
switch it to mpg2?
I assume that I can't create HD results at this point - but what is the best I can do.
(yes I will keep the RAW HD data for when I am ready ..)

Any ideas and tips would be appreciated.

Call or email VASST or Cineform they should be able to get you going in HD no less.

Nice cam - I have HF100. :-)

You could also buy the AVCHD Upshift from VASST - it will give you HDV out of your AVCHD footage, and you should be able to edit this in your ver. 7. It's $49 - quite well sepnt I would say.

I read on the comments that the "old" version had some issues but a new version was coming out - has the new version come out yet? If I buy now do I get the new one ..

Is the quality I get from this like normal DV or HD?

I also read about diff SW where you work on a "proxy" version of the media and the final render is with the original - would that work with Vegas 7 or only later?

I have been testing the new beta version (10g) and yes, it does work much better than the older version (10d). However I do not know if it is out yet. But even if it's not, I think you could get it. Todor (from NBFX) posted an offer to have folks beta test the new version--you can find it in http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=621691 this thread[/link]. Just scroll down to the post by NewBlueFX, and email Todor and ask him for the new version, if that isn't what you get when you get the download link after buying UpShift. You might want to email him first just to ask if the new version is released yet, or if he'll at least let you get the beta. It doesn't hurt to ask.

There doesn't appear to be a way to tell from the VASST site if the new version is up yet, but the help manual still looks like it's for the older version--but I don't know if this means anything however. So just email Todor and ask him.
