Brightening Just Midtones?

Is there a way in Vegas to brighten midtones, similar to options available in Photoshop, without brightening already bright areas?

See if the Gamma adjustment in the Color Corrector gets you where you want to go.

Or you can use the curves to get a much more precise adjustment.
