Bug importing video in DVDA 4b

I came across another media import bug in DVDA 4b – I’m hoping that by posting it, I might save someone else a bit of time should they come across it. I’ve confirmed that both bugs occur with .m2v video encoded outside of Vegas or DVDA.

The first bug has been there at least since V 3... Drag a video file onto a menu & place the button – dragging a .m2v video onto the same menu causes both buttons to re-arrange themselves as on a chapter menu. If you have several buttons linked to video, it’ll re-arrange them all. Undo the media import and drag the m2v video onto the menu a second time and everything’s fine.

This second bug is also related to DVDA’s parsing .m2v video – in the above example the problem occurs immediately after DVDA parsing the .m2v – once the .sfvx file [containing the results of that parsing] is written, DVDA seems to work properly. In this second case DVDA 4b [have not tested other versions] will not properly read it’s own .sfvx file after DVDA has been closed – as long as it remains open I couldn’t verify any problems.

The results are: after starting DVDA & re-opening a project containing .m2v video, DVDA might show the video length incorrectly on the timeline, may report it has to re-encode the video, may report a project’s size on disc as increased by about half the original, more accurate figure. Removing or renaming the video’s associated .sfvx file with DVDA closed causes DVDA to parse the video again, and everything works. Unfortunately this can cause loading the project to take quite a while, sometimes giving the appearance of a crash.

Whether DVDA has been closed or not, Smart Prepare apparently will not work in this situation. Trying to replace the video, re-import etc. can cause DVDA 4b to stall [crash]. Muxing the .m2v video to .mpg *without* an audio file prior to importing the video, seems to bypass DVDA’s parsing the file and writing the problem .sfvx file.
