BUG? Save or Advanced-Save Crashes V21 w/Credit Roll edit

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 12/1/2023, 3:28 PM

This is a problem I can repeat.

  1. I have Advanced-Save enabled. Use Advanced Backup, every 5 minutes, local folder.
  2. In my project, I'm editing a credit-roll. I noticed it doesn't auto-save until I click back into the timeline
  3. When it goes to auto-save, it advances to 33%, I see the file in my backup folder with proper size, but never progresses past 33%
  4. Only way to proceed is kill Vegas in task manager. Trying to clsoe (via "x") just says it would end a background process, but it still won't let me exit.

Memory looks fine. Here's what task manager shows while it's sitting there at 33%.. I noticed a whole lotta subprocesses.

NEW INFORMATION

Before opening the credit roll, I pressed CTRL-S and saved a few times to confirm that worked. Although it PAUSES for a second at 33%, it completes the save.

It hangs at 33%, however, while the credit roll is open (editing it), when I press CTRL-S. It's not an auto-save problem.. just saving while the credit roll is open!

MORE INFO: Although I saved once successfully (closing credit roll), when done with my edits and I tried again, it hung at 33%.

I searched the forum and can confirm that the "save" on Hub Explorer not on.

At the hang-point, the project has been renamed to .tmp, but no other file created yet.

OK.. last update... in case somehow this rings familiar to anyone or y'all have ideas...

I copied the credit roll to a blank project, and was able to edit it and save just fine. I then copied it back to the original project replacing the credit roll which was there.. and it saved. *whew*

Don't know what it is about editing the credit roll in my larger V21 project but I'm at least able to wrap up and render.

*scritches head*

I can confirm most of this. I too have been trying to troubleshoot a project, a 6 minute short film, where making changes to credit roll causes save to fail at 33% requiring task manager to kill Vegas. In my case I think also crashed at 33% saving, if I close the edited credit roll before saving. Copying the credit roll to a new empty project, or to the end of a previous 9 minute short, as a test, allowed me to save after editing the credit roll. I did not yet try copying the credit roll back to the original project.

Thanks for all the details, guys. Unfortunately, we still haven't been able to repro this in house. Have you learned anything more?

My busy season picks up in Feb and I will have many more credit rolls to test and report on!

In the meanwhile I do believe I saved the project which kept crashing on me. Happy to dig it up and submit to your team if I can reproduce the problem without requiring sending the massive amount of media too. LMK where/how to submit; never heard back from my efforts to submit but reports.

Is there a hidden "enable debug log" feature we could turn on, which might help pinpoint where the trouble is during the save?

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns thanks so much for offering! I was able to reproduce this issue today, and wrote up a bug report so that we can get it fixed.👍
