@pierre-k - Ouch! That’s a challenging clip. Can I get hold of it via DropBox?

pierre-k wrote on 8/14/2023, 4:56 AM

It doesn't matter what the shot is. All videos behave the same. One half is always lighter.

Hi @pierre-k, you would like to use a title event on a separate track to create a Z-Depth composition?
In this case, please add Z-Depth as a 'Custom' Compositing mode for the track containing the title event:

@VEGASFlorian - Thank you 😉

pierre-k wrote on 8/14/2023, 5:18 AM

No. I want it to work differently for each event. Not for the whole track, but for the events. I apply Z-depth to the top event and decide for myself what I need to filter out. A blurred background would work great like this. I don't understand why half of the video is lighter.

If I only want it for individual events, I have to apply the Level plugin to the bottom layer.

It works great for subtitles, but not for blurry backgrounds.

@pierre-k With your configuration, the Z-Depth outputs un-premultiplied alpha colors which is not expected. I will check if that an issue to fix.

For now, as workaround, you can add Brightness FX to the FX chain and put it before Z-Depth (as shown here):

@Vegas_Sebastian - Would Nesting assist?

pierre-k wrote on 8/14/2023, 6:48 AM

@VEGASFlorian

Ahaa. I do the blurred background wrong. I automatically fold it under myself, which is unnecessary. One event is enough. Not two events.

@pierre-k I edited my comment above which shows a workaround.

Not two events

@pierre-k - Well done!

@Vegas_Sebastian

Thanks, but a better solution is not to add the same event under each other, because it's unnecessary.

Vegas_Sebastian wrote on 8/14/2023, 7:00 AM

@pierre-k That is possible, you just need to add a titler (like BCC Title Studio) as an event-FX and place it before the Z-Depth FX.

@Vegas_Sebastian

I discovered another problem.

1. If you put an empty Adjustment event above the event where Z-depth is applied, the video will light up.

2. If you add an Adjustment event with FX above the event where Z-depth is applied, the effect is only applied to the title and the waving lady. The sea will not change. Which is probably wrong, because the Adjustment Track is supposed to affect everything below it. No?

3. If I use any FX on the entire track or the final video output, Z-Depth behaves confusedly.

In this state, Z-Depth only seems to work great without additional FX, which is very worrying. .

Thanks for reporting and replicating. Hopefully they can sort it out by next update.

I would appreciate it if the fix came much earlier this time than in the winter, considering that this new feature is unusable when combined with other plugins.
