Buggy Buggy Buggy!

I have been a long time Vegas user -- since it was Sound Forge Video Factory, in fact -- and I have never had a version of Vegas that is as buggy as 11. It crashes after every other edit, pretty much, and that's really inconvenient when you're on a deadline. Hopefully, someone will take a look at this problem. I just installed the new update and it's still crashing. As much as I swear by Vegas, this version has me ready to switch to something else.

We need more information such as hardware, software, drivers, type of video being edited, what is happening when it crashes and so on...

One problem could be how long ago Windows was installed on your computer how many versions of Vegas you've installed on it. I swear, it may sound stupid but it's not.

As an ex-computer technician, I always reinstalled Windows once per year on my own computers to prevent unstability. With Windows 7, the OS is so stable I didn't do it with my last computer. It turns out Windows had accumulated all sorts of small problems over the years.

Programs like WebTV froze on every single browser you can imagine. And that's only one example. The lost time of a clean reinstall once in a while pays off in potential time lost with crashes on an operations critical machine.

No! No! No! This is not because it's running on an old install of Windows! I reinstalled Windows 7 64bit on my new SSD drive only 3 weeks ago and Vegas 11 is crashing more than ever! Every day in so many weird places it's impossible to notice any trends, unless I start spending a lot of time cataloging every crash. I've even had it crash while saving a project file. Fortunately, I was able to recover the project from the BAK file.

I don't mind rare, obscure crashes, but Vegas is crashing about 10 times a day for me.

10? That's an improvement. Almost every mouse click for me, again on a brand new install of windows 7.

Obvious crash causes:

Borix FX. You don't need to actually use them just have them installed.
Cineform media
External monitoring.

This also applies to V10 which is what I'm trying to get stuff done with. I'd go back to 8 except I need OFX plugins.

For me, the new version crashes a heck of a lot less than the old version, but it still crashes two or three times per work session. One thing that seems to make it crash is working with text, even with the regular old text generator.

That's got to be very frustrating. But old installations DO cause regular problems.

I have the same problem. Its worse now with the latest download. It drops the video track and the rendering box flashes constantly. I have to force the program to close down then restart and start editing all over again.

sorry, but sound forge was sonic foundry's audio software. vegas video was what is now sony vegas. realizing this is just a rant post i thought i would point that out.

I have issues too, btw...so i feel your pain! Why does the MC encoder always want to use my unsupported video card, and crash my display driver every single time, regardless of what I checked in the options?
