Bugs galore in 4

I used Vegas 2 for the last 9 months while learning to use my Layla. it WAS a pirate copy, but i hate paying for something that won't work for me.
So, i love 2.0 and opted to buy into version 4 rather than trying something else.
So far I am very disappointed in 4. Great features, but they don't work so well just yet.
1) Input monitor- sounds like Robot Voice, who can sing to that!?
2) Older plugins- no longer work when running ASIO (accustic mirror for one, and i love that one).
3) Efx busses crackle and pop, even with SF's own plugins.
4) digital grunge noise when opening/closing processor window, just an annoyance.
5) am having wav files disappear from my projects, usually a punch in. after leaving the session i will reopen later to find some odd part in there instead of what was punched in originally. i can't believe that this is the software's problem, but it has never happened before and has now happened three times in a month.
7) program locks up on a regular basis, usually when adding busses/efx. locks up tight, have to reboot via reset button. V2.0 never did that.
I sincerely hope SF knows about these things and will fix them in the updates.
I am going to be very patient. Will I go back and use 2.0 in the meantime...well, no, with all it's bugs 4.0 is still a great program.

If you have a quick look around the forum you will see that they are all previously reported. But *do* send your error report to SF tech support to help them fix it.

man i have put 4.0 in 6 studios in my area with no bugs!!!!!!!! might be your system!!

yeah, but noone can tell what the magic combo is that makes it work right. These are KNOWN bugs. SF said they are working on them a few threads back. Cant wait

in the meantime maybe youd like to post a good system that you know works? Hopefully its dual monitors and at least 24 ins and outs

OK, since the Vegas forum won't show me the original posts when I reply, I can't remember in what order you wrote the bugs... But here goes.

Everything from robotic voices to crackles and pops is related to your driver, not the application. Check your buffer sizes. Same thing with Acoustic Mirror: A SoFo guy just wrote that the acoustic mirror requires a HUGE processing buffer, and that's exactly what ASIO drivers are NOT made for. In a sense, your system is "too good" to be used with the Acoustic Mirror. Maybe if you tweak your buffer as large as it goes, but that's no guarantee.

The other bugs you reported are known and will, AFAIK, be fixed in the next release. No info as to when it's coming, though.

No, the SoFo guy said that Ac Mirror was not really an appropriate plugin to be using in a realtime situation.

Yeah, he said so, but AM worked in Vegas 3 since Vegas 3 used larger buffers. If you tweak the buffer high enough you MIGHT get AM to work in Vegas 4, or you might not. It's worth a shot.

Johan is correct.(I seem to be saying that a lot as of late<g>.)

ASIO's small sample frame sizes cause problems with AM. Again, AM's impulse size effectively changes the overall latency to equal that of the impulse.

We are looking for solutions for this.

Cool!

If you do, would that mean I could use AM in e.g. Logic? I tend to use Logic a lot for post-processing voices since the native Logic plugins (especially the noise gate) are really intuitive and CPU-friendly. Not having to switch to SF or Vegas just for (destructive) acoustic modelling would be a huge timesaver for me.

mirror on a card!

Nope, we will be addressing the hosting of AM in Vegas/ACID. Because of how AM does things - and because of specific patent issues I am told - we can't change how AM does its magic.

Aah. Fair enough, I like it too much not to use it =)
