Bundled MyDVD won't burn DVD?!

I recently bought Movie Studio 3.0b (build 118) and installed it along with the bundled MyDVD from the Movie Studio CD-ROM.

When I start up MyDVD, the splash page says: "MyDVD for CD / Version 5"

Then I get the "Welcome to Sonic MyDVD" wizard, which has "Video CD" on the upper left, and under "Select a project type", only has things like "Create or Modify a Video CD Project", "Record Direct-to-VCD", etc. - nothing about making a DVD. If I do "Create or Modify ...", the window that comes up only has "VCD" in the options in the lower left hand corner.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it possbile that Movie Studio, which proudly proclaims on the box that you can burn DVDs and DVD menus, only comes with a version of MyDVD that burns VCDs?

FWIW, this is on a 2.8 Ghz P4 with Windows XP Pro SP 2, and I've got a Pioneer DVR 107d DVD burner which XP recognizes just fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Nick

A few possible solutions:

1. Since you bought this recently, contact Sony to see if you can get a a free or special rate upgrade to the recently released Movie Studio 4.0. If not, I believe the upgrade price is $30.

2. Make sure you don't have anything else connected to your firewire card (I believe that the drive you have uses firewire?). If it's USB, do the same for USB connections.

3. Again, if it's connected by firewire, try this firewire patch.

Actually, its an internal DVD drive, not Firewire or USB.
