Burn a DVD from an .AVI file (?)

I am a newbee to Vegas4. I was unable to capture a video from a DVCAM tape. I gave up in frustration and used "Ulead6". I now have an .AVI file that I can't seem to get burned to a DVD and am about to give up in frustration in favor of some $30 sharewareprogram.
For the bucks Vegas cost, I ought to be able to do something with it. HELP - what steps am I missing?

You need to convert your .avi to an .mpg2, in the rendering section of vegas. Then open DVD-A and bring in the mpg2. DVD-A will then make that into a DVD. But I'm not about to write out every instruction. It's fairly easy. Right click on the DVD-A screen and 'import media'. That means find that mpg2 file and open. It's easy from there on out. DVD-A will make the necessary changes and make the DVD. But look at the instruction manual as you go along. (Rendering from .avi to .mpg2 can take 2 to 12 times longer than the video length is, depending on how much editing and your cpu speed.)

What part is giving you trouble? Are you using a DVD authoriing program, or are you trying to do this directly from Vegas? If you're trying to do this directly from Vegas, there's your problem -- Vegas is not a DVD authoring program. It's an editor.

Do you have DVD Architect? If so, is that what you're using and what is happenining? If not, what DVD authoring software are you using?

Neither do you say why you were "unable to capture a video from a DVCAM tape." Sorry to sound blunt, but no one's going to be able to help you if you aren't more specific about what's going wrong. Error messages? Just can't find the right commands?
