Burn speeds greater than 1x ??

My Pioneer 105 drive is supposed to be able to burn at 4x, and it does so using some burning programs. DVDA only burns at 1x and there is no other option in the drop-down box.

It would be nice to burn a one-hour DVD in less than 20 minutes.

Has anyone succeeded in burning at higher speeds?

Thanks in advance.

I get 2.4, which is the speed my HP200i is rated at. Are you complaining about burning a FULL DVD disc in less than 20 minutes? Are you burning a full DVD? That's 4.7GB. How long you think it should take?

I suspect your drive IS running at its rated speed and your mistake is you put in the blank disc and see some incorrect value. If you wait and not push in the blank DVD until it is asked for the setting with reset... at least that's how it is on my HP. Initially I see some bogus value then after the DVD spins up for a second or two before it disapears the dialog box shows the correct 2.4X speed.

Sorry I was a bit unclear in my comment about burning a DVD in less than 20 minutes.

I cannot do it now, at 1x. It takes about an hour for me to burn a hour of video onto DVD using DVDA. If I was burning at 4x, as my drive is supposed to be able to do, I think the process would take less than 20 minutes.

I had to do some DVD duplication and experienced the same problem.

I had some DVD+R rated at 2.4x, that was the fatest I could burn them. I guess that is ok, but I also burned some Memorex DVD-R that where not rated at all. With my first DVD-R, I was able to burn it at 2x, but surprise, the following 6 DVD-R would only go for 1x, and then my seventh DVD-R would go for 2x and the others would only go for 1x.

The content of my video was almost 90 minute using a Sony DRU500a ( firmware: f ).

Is your media rated at 2x or 4x? Even though the drive is rated at 4x, if the media you're feeding it is only rated at 1x then that's the only choice you will have in DVD-A.

The media is rated 4x and the same media will burn at 4x in other programs.

Boy am I stupid sometimes. I just realized that I was not using my regular DVD-R media when I had this problem, but rather was using DVD-RW, which probably is just 1x rated.

When I burn to DVD-R, I have a choice of 1x, 2x or 4x.

Sorry to waste everyone's time, and thanks for your comments.
