Burn Times in DVDA4.5

I am burning hour long programs onto 4x single sided DVD's. Burn times seem very long, say 3.5 hours. That doesn't seem right to me. Am I doing something wrong?

I am running XPsp2 on a 3.0 g Hz machine with 2.0 GB Ram. I should think my hardware is robust enough. I don't know if there exists faster than 4x DVD media (haven't purchased DVD blanks in some time). What say you all?

Something definitely seems amiss. I use mostly 4x media and my burn times for a nearly full single layer disc usually run around 25 minutes. I don't have DVDA4.5 yet, but i get similar results with DVDA4, DVDA3, and Nero 6.

I have one copy of each of the 5 DVD's in this set. Maybe I'll use some other ap to make the subsequent copies for now. DVDA4.5 has spent 2:50 to reach 83% on the current DVD. I didn't use the "additional" copy button, but close down the program and came back a few hours later and opened up the project and burned the second DVD. Don't think that should have anything to do with the burn time, but I am not certain.

I have a program called DVFab. I'll try that.

The rest of the operation in DVDA4.5 went as expected. Preparation of the DVD is quite snappy.

Thanks for the reply.

In response to part of the first post - yes, there does exist faster media. 16x DVD are quite common, and much nicer for burning than 4x :)

How are you preparing your media for DVDA??

Just before the burn process you can click the optimize button. Do you see any files that will be recompressed or do you get any messages that any files will need to be recompressed prior to actual burning? How complicated are your menu pages? Animated backgrounds??

My projects are generally about 45 minutes long with one or two menu pages. I prepare the media in Vegas so they do not require any recompression, except of course for the menus. I burn to 4x RW disks to check and make sure everything is ok before I duplicate.

The burnig process is about 25 minutes per disc.

I'm using XP Pro with AMD 64+ 4800 and 2GB RAM.
