i have been trying to get a disc that will play on my dvd player but no matter what i try no luck. i've read loads of forum tips but still after several months of trying well its just one big head ache. my projects are still photos mixed with video and the odd animation ie-gif. when burning i'm told the bitrate is ok, using maxwell dvd-rwdisc@2x write speed

The first thing I would do is change your media to Verbatum or Taiyo Yuden.
Then we need more information about how you are trying to burn your movie.

Are you trying to make a Video DVD or just a DVD that plays in a DVD Player? Most DVD players only support Video DVDs or VCD's. An animated GIF is not supported in the Video DVD format.

You need to use an authoring program (like DVD Architect) that will create a Video DVD.

making movie as follows. 1st way hit make movie @ top of page/save to hhd as mpeg 2. then open dvda import media/prepare/burn.
2nd way open render as/mpeg2 dvda pal/ render audio as wave as no dolby setting send to dvda prepare ect. both files in same folder @ alltimes. have even down loaded trial vegas platinum and used 2nd method but audio as dolby ac3.
i did get my first project to burn very easily and it has gif in it but as you do, you think thats easy enough so didnt write down paths ect, no go since then. have tryed just about every way i can think of. computer is toshiba equium and uses sonic dvla, could that be the problem?

My guess is that your RW discs aren't compatible with your player. I have an "older" Panasonic set top player that doesn't like RW discs.

This link should help you to see if they're compatible:
