Burning a 1080p disc at 30 fps

Steve3_14159 wrote on 9/24/2017, 7:38 PM

Is it possible to create a 1080p disc in DVD Architect at 30 fps? I've been using v5 relatively happily for years, along with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10.0, but it maxes out at 1080i. I just downloaded the current trial version, Build 67, and it's the same. They can make a 1080p disc at 24 fps, but I shoot video, not film. Is the version that comes with VEGAS Pro the same?

If it can't be done in DVD Architect, how does one create a 1080p 30 fps disc?

I saw in a previous thread that 1080p is not supported in blu-ray ("1080p is not a bluray supported format"). The way it was written, it could mean that DVD Architect doesn't support 1080p, or that it's outside of the blu-ray standard. I looked at a number of commercial blu-ray movies I own and they all stated that they were 1080p.

Thanks for any enlightenment that can be provided!

Render the 30p as 60i

Thanks, David and Set. I think I see now. My commercial movies are 1080p, but only 24 fps. That makes sense since they started from film, at least in the past. So it looks like I'll have to render each video I make twice. Once for upload to Vimeo at 30 fps and once for blu-ray, either 720-60p or 1088-60i.

Or is it just as good to let DVD Architect do the re-rendering when it creates the disc?

Thanks for the help!

I never suggest letting DVDA do the reencoding. You lose all control, but some people are fine with DVDA's renders. I think you will find minimal difference in a 1080 60i rendering of your 1080p video.

Or, render as 'intermediate master' as 24p first, and then render this 'intermediate master' as Blu-Ray 1080-23.97p (if I remember, the Blu-Ray support this frame rate - but correct me if I'm wrong), or 1080-60i (just remember to disable resample to prevent blurring)

It is convenient to use DVDA, though, because you can set the bit rate to use up the whole disc. My discs always have multiple videos, ranging from about 5' to 20'. Maybe the way to go is to render at the camera clips' resolution and a very high bit rate, then let DVDA re-render it to fit it all on the disc? One thing I've learned is that video recorded at 60 fps and rendered at 30 fps looks lousy, at least with Movie Maker 10.

Plan your bit rate for the whole project first and render the video with that calculated bit rate.

I also have multiple videos, and I still depends on this project budgeting from Encore's help:
