Burning DVD FAILS!!

I installed the DVD Architect Studio Software today and am unable to
burn a DVD. When the progress gets to 98% it pauses for a while, then
say device timeout. I have a Dell P4 3.1 ghz computer and using Memorex DVD+R
disk. I had to get a DVD to a friend TODAY, so I tried the DVD Builder that came
with the Dell. It worked. I purchase this software for the added themes and transitions.
The drive is a TEAC DVD+RW . I saw other posts that had the same problem, but didn't
see anything that would solve my problem. Any help would be GREATLY APPRIECIATED!!

Formally report the problem to Sony; this is a peer support forum, so most of us here can't do much except suggest a few things.

DVDA and DVDAS are terrible at compatability with burners and media. If +R fails, try -R, if that doesn't work then you'll likely need to use some other program to burn the DVD such as Nero - just prepare the project in DVDAS and then use Nero to burn.

I will try and save the DVD project and burn with
Roxio that is also on computer. I tried to find out
if my DVD drive would burn R- disks. Could only
find referrences to R+. I have always thought it would only
burn R+. Whats the difference????
Thanks for your comments.

Different standards. +R isn't a recognized standard by some groups (such as the DVD Consortium, or whatever they call themselves).

I just baught a Dell XPS. I was having a similar problem...getting to 98% and not finishing the burn. This happened in Nero, Sonic, and DVDA as well. I figured it was the DVD burner (mine came with the philips 8631) so I called Dell and after about 2 hours on the phone with them, I finally got them to replace my burner. They replaced it with the same model and it works fine now. They were very reluctant to exchange my burner because it passed all the tests that they made me run the burner through...the only reason they gave into an exchange is because the light on my burner wasn't working.
Good luck if you have to deal with them.
