Burning DVD's...

I am trying to burn a project from this software to a verbatim professional light scribe DVD and it doesn't work. I have prepared it and then burned it and it says it is complete, but when I try to put in back in my computer, it shows up as a blank disc. It won't play on my DVD player either. It's a DVD-R. I have burned it to a different, older DVD, Maxell DVD+R and it works perfectly.
What can I do to get it to burn correctly on the verbatim DVD's?

What version of DVD Architect are you using, and are you using the latest of that version?

DVD Architect's burning component used to be really flakey and has been known to work only with some DVD burner / blank disc combinations. It's much better now than it used to be, but there can still be some issues. I'd start by installing the current update for your version and applying any firmware updates available for your DVD burner (check with the manufacturer).

Also, it's not uncommon for a DVD Architect user to author and prepare the DVD project in DVDA and then use a separate DVD burning program to burn the DVD from those files. You click Make DVD, choose prepare, and follow the instructions. When this is done, open Nero, CopyToDVD, or the DVD burning application of your choice; create a new DVD video project, and drag the VIDEO_TS folder (created by DVD Architect) into the DVD video project's file structure. And burn.

There are a *bunch* of posts here and everywhere else burning related that are very similar. Might want to check some of them out...

Personally I'd google and check over at cdfreaks as well using the make/model of your burner -- it might have compatibility issues with whatever discs you're trying to use -- there are ID numbers on the media you can access with special (& often free) software, and it helps to use that ID. AT any rate that way you can at least be sure that whatever you find applies to your drive and your media.

Otherwise, depending on what you find out [there may be recommended but un-official firmware updates for example], &/or you can try different burn speeds, different burning programs (i.e. ImgBurn) etc...

Sites like videohelp & CDFreaks have links to or direct downloads of apps to ID you media. Windows Explorer properties dialog &/or Device Mgr give you info on your drive. Both sites have some compatibility postings & listings -- CDFreaks has more info on modded firmware.

I can't burn DVD's either and I don't even get as far as you do. I get to the lead-in portion of the process and that's it. The burner just spins the disc forever and I need to reboot to get it out of the drive. The disc appears to be untouched, but is useless for anything else so I've made plenty of coasters trying to get DVDA to burn.

I can burn the DVDA prepared files with Nero just fine. I find it more than a little annoying that the DVDA software is so flakey for this process and that I have to resort to another program to burn the DVD.

Sony support seems to be uninterested in helping. Their solution is to download the latest version of DVDA which I had done before even contacting them.

Should DVD burning be this difficult? It's not like this is brand new technology and any other program I use to burn DVDs works perfect with no *special* adjustments.
