Check out the thread "MPEG encoding for DVD burning."
I have been able to successfully burn to DVD using the Pioneer A03, VF, and the MyDVD software that came with the A03. In a nutshell, I capture old VHS through my Sony digital camcorder into VF, edit it and then render as the MPEG template DVD Better. (The render takes a LOOOONG time on my system P3-700. I recently did a 45 minute file that took almost 9 hours to render!) There are many MPEG encoders out there so you don't have to use VF (Ligos). But that is the most direct.
I have found that the easiest way to create MPEG files, interactive menus, overtures and scenes is with a new DVD authoring/writing product called DVD Complete, which is made by DVDCre8. Saw them on TechTV, tried it (beta only available until November), and found it easier, better quality and more features than MyDVD.
I just ran across the DVDCre8 web site 2 days ago and their product sounds exactly like what I'm looking for (features and price).
I looked over their web site and didn't see any beta version available. How did you get your copy? I e-mailed asking about a beta version yesterday. We'll see if I get a response.
With the lack of mastering software on the market, I was starting to plan my own development effort.
Hey, Sonic Foundry! Any plans to come out with a DVD mastering package to complement VideoFactory and Video Vegas?
I am the president of DVDCre8, Inc., the developer of DVD Complete! The product will be available in early November in two flavors, a free demo for test driving and the full-featured version for purchase.
As to Sonic Foundry needing a robust DVD authoring product to provide an end-to-end solution, I agree. I have tried calling two Sonic Foundry execs (Ted Lingard and Bradley Reinke) over the past three weeks to suggest the licensing or purchasing of our groundbreaking new software, but I've yet to receive a return call. DVD Complete! would complement Video Factory quite well, both in term of process and user interface.
