Burning to DVD...

Well....I've copy / pasted this inquiry from my previous post in the wrong forum.

Good day to all....

I'm a new kid here so thought I would introduce myself and I have an inquiry.

I purchased Movie Studio 9.0 Platinum Pro two weeks ago and I'm making a DVD of my 'Military Chronicles'.
I got through one hurdle which was dealing with all the different sizes of the pictures I had and ones I got from fellow military brothers.

My first inquiry is saving to DVD.
I've made my first test copy to DVD and 'rendered' as an .avi file and all came out fine.

1) Is there a preferred (or default) format one should save to rather than '.avi' which is a fairly large file?

2) If one wants to play a newly burned DVD correctly on a 42" LCD TV what is best format to render to?

Thanks for reading my novelette and any guidance is appreciated.
That's correct....I am VERY new at this process.

Are you authoring and burning with DVD Architect?

1) Is there a preferred (or default) format one should save to rather than '.avi' which is a fairly large file?

There is only one video format for DVD, it is called MPEG-2. The tutorials packed with your Vegas program will show you how to burn an MPEG-2 video file and AC3 audio file using the DVDA templates for import into DVDA.

If you bring in an AVI file, it will need to be rendered first to MPEG-2 (a lengthy process).

How long will your finished DVD be? Is it all pictures or is there video too?

2) If one wants to play a newly burned DVD correctly on a 42" LCD TV what is best format to render to?

Widescreen, if you have widescreen material in a widescreen project.

Musicvid.....

Ok....I did get DVD Architect with the Movie Studio Plat Pro 9.0 and I'll be hibernating and studying that program this weekend so I haven't burned to DVD with it yet.

This project has about 270 pictures and a 6 minute movie being an .avi file.
I saved and rendered the project as 'DV NTSC' (in my ultimate ignorance) from the choices available.
This project is about 35 minutes long with music.
I'm a long time musician/songwriter and have used some of my original songs
and a couple of other select tunes for this project.

Then I imported this .avi into Power Producer (bundled with my GE20 LG DVD burner) to do a test burn until I learn DVD Architect.
Test burn came out fine but I'm sure I'm missing some of the intricacies of this
process now that I have this Vegas program.

I'm used to some things in this program which occasionally equate to my music
recording software being Sonar 5.0 but there is a learning curve for me right now.

Many thanks for your helpful response getting me educated in this process.
I'll be here frequently and maybe I'll even get to a point where I can actually help
someone else.

A good day to all....

If you render to the MPEG-2 "DVD NTSC" (not "DVD Architect NTSC" or "DV NTSC") template in Vegas, you will get a file with sound that "may" import fine into your Power Producer (I have no experience).

If that works, it will be better than DV NTSC for several reasons that I can explain sometime later.

Musicvid......

Well....I don't plan on using Power Producer again.
I'm hunkering down to educate myself on DVD Architect this weekend....plus I'm taking
Friday off so I'll have 4 days to hibernate and learneth.

I will try your suggestions.

Thanks again for chiming in for a new kid with all this.

Later..........
