busses and inexperience

I've just begun to experiment with my Vegas 2.0 beyond my comfort level. Thus far I have successfully recorded a number of home projects utilizing just one stereo buss. I route all tracks to this buss and have a clear/concise idea of my overall level just prior to rendering to a 24 bit 2 track ready for tweaking in Sound Forge. Due to limitations of my old box, I've found it necessary to limit tracks to mono when appropriate, creat additional busses where tracks can be routed and processed as a group with shared plugs. (Such as all vocals). This seems to work in areas where I've previously had audio gapping, but I'm wondering about my overall output. When I had just one "master" buss to worry about, I'd usually set all levels so as not to exceed -0.2 db by the end of the song. Now, with multiple routes displaying various levels, I'm uncertain where I stand with my level upon rendering. Am I to assume that if all busses do not max/clip, then I'll render a 2-track that doesn't reach or exceed 100% peak value?? Somehow I don't think so, and if not, is there a way to create a master buss that would give me an idea where I stand in my overall output?? Thanks in advance to all those that know the answer and care to share their wisdom...Larry

Try rendering a mix and see where your levels are. Sometimes its trial and error and actually this is the best way to learn an application IMO. However, Vegas 3 added a master bus which eliminated this particular guess work. ;-)
