No problems here.

Created a new project and hit Ctrl-B so that Show Button Mask overlay was on (not key to the operation, just easier to see the results). Added three butons to the menu, all highlighting is yellow as is the default. Went to Properties window, changed Color set 1 (fill color) to red, all highlighting on the menu turned red. Went to preview and navigated among the buttons -- each one was red.

DVDA 2.0a Build 121.

You're saying you changed the fill color and only one button's highlighting changed? Which one?

Yes, I changed the fill color and only the first button changed colors, while the other two didn't. I then deleted the first button and previewed the project again. This time the button that didn't change color did and the other button didn't. Its like the program is only seeing the first button when I use the fill color settings.

Gonna take a stab in the dark here... You know that the color set is for highlighting, right? Only one item is highlighted at a time. Go to preview and navigate around the screen with the remote buttons on the right -- does the color fill move from item to item?

You are right, it works fine. I misunderstood how the feature is supposed to function.

Thanks for the help Rob.

No problem.

If you want all the text buttons to have a background, you can change the menu so that there is highlighting for the inactive buttons as well as the active one. By default, the inactive buttons' highlighting is transparent, but you can choose a color set if you want. I would recommend not using the same color set as your active buttons, though, as that would defeat the purpose of highlighting. ;-)
